Serra's governing body, comprised of directors
of member libraries; works with the System Advisory
Board
ALA - American
Library Association
CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY
CALTAC - California Library Trustees and Commissioners
- A chapter of the California Library Association.
CLA - California Library Association.
CLSA - California Library Services Act - defines
mandated system services and funds library systems.
CLSB - California Library Services Board - oversees
the administration of library systems. The State
Librarian is the Chief Administrative Officer of
the California Library Services Board. As of January
1, 1999, will be known at the Library of California
Board.
CORE - California Opportunities for Reference
Excellence. State Library funded program developing
series of staff training workshops.
ILL - Interlibrary loan.
LIBRARY
OF CALIFORNIA ("LoC") - New
(1998) legislation to implement a statewide network
linking all types of libraries and related agencies
to better enable cooperation to meet the information
needs of California's people.
LSTA -
Library Services and Technology Act - This Federal
act funds library projects, administered through
the State Library, replacing LSCA, Library Services & Construction
Act.
METRO - Currently inactive, a multitype library
organization which included public, school, academic
and special libraries in San Diego and Imperial
Counties. The directory of local libraries published
by Serra still uses METRO as its title.
OCLC - A nationally automated cataloging, union
listing and interlibrary loan service. The California
Library Data Base is housed on OCLC.
PALOMAR - San Diego based association of library
staff and those interested in libraries.
PLA - Public Library Association - A section of
the American Library Association.
PLF - Public Library Fund provides matching funds
to California public libraries. Administered by
the State Library.
PROPOSITION L - Failed 1999 ballot proposition
for San Diego County, which would have increased
sales tax by .25% for 5 years and benefited the
public libraries in local communities.
SAB - System Advisory Board works with the Administrative
Council in governing Serra; composed of community
representatives appointed by their city or county
jurisdictions
SLA -
Special Libraries Association. There is a regional San
Diego Chapter.
SILDRN - San Diego/Imperial County Libraries Disaster
Response Network - A mutual aid network for library
disaster training and response, started in 1996.
SRC - Serra Research Center. First level reference
- questions which are answered at the local public
library. Second level reference - questions which
are answered at the Serra Research Center. Third
level reference - questions answered by referral
to larger libraries outside the Serra system.
TBRs - Transaction based reimbursements for interlibrary
loans and direct loans to non-residents. |
